In his opening speech, Command Sgt. Major William Allen, EAMC's senior non-commissioned officer, said the clinic is the first of its kind at Fort Gordon as a "tri-service clinic dedicated to the core readiness mission of the Department of Defense."

Allen went on to say that the newly named and restructured Private Henry S. Huber Troop Medical Clinic is an "aggressive step by Eisenhower Medical Center to find creative ways to expand services in a times of uncertainty and dwindling resources - such as Private Henry Hubert himself. , who was awarded the Silver Star.”

Hubert was assigned as a medic to the 5th Field Signal Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division during World War I. While in France, on October 4, 1918, he rendered medical aid to severely wounded comrades under heavy enemy fire. His heroic actions that day earned him the Silver Star.

In addition to what Allen said about Huber, Colonel Carlene A.S. Blanding, EAMC Commander, said the significance of the designation is that it also reflects the link between medicine, EAMC and the signal/cyber community.

"Our relationship with this installation is critical as we correct the gaps in our system ... to ensure that the relationships with our partners in the Navy, Air Force and Navy are strong and on. We're here to make sure that happens," Blanding said. "What we do in this building affects every person in this organization, so the way we do it and the policies and procedures we put in place are important to take care of. all of us in this facility."

Service personnel who enter the Private Henry S. Huber Troop Medical Clinic can benefit from resources that ensure they are ready - all under one roof - instead of having to move between facility buildings.

"We're really trying to meet those demands by changing the way we do business, which is why this clinic came about," Blanding said.

"You come here, everything is taken care of, and then you go," added Major Antione Barnett, Chief of Tri-Service Medical Care and OIC of the Private Henry S. Huber Troop Medical Clinic. "It makes a huge difference in terms of quality of service and access to be able to base us all in one building."

After the speeches, attendees were invited to tour the clinic. Thinking of those who will enter the clinic in the coming days, Barnett said she hopes everyone will take the time to read Huber's story and reflect on what it means to serve.

Private Huber is part of the Signal Corps and he is also a medic who risked his life to save another person, and we must follow in the same footsteps as Private Huber in the sacrifices we make... health care someone, preparedness and also their personal health is first and foremost because that's what we're here for,” Barnett said.
